REGISTERS

The registers of clarinet are divided in five: low, medium, clarino, high and high-pitched.

Low. It includes of E to F 1 . This registry also is known with the name of Chalumeau , thanks to its preceding instrument. Its color is considered shady, dramatic, full and dark; in piano he is warm and transparent, and in forte, cold, tenebrous and threatening. It is very different from the other registries of the instrument; very rich in shades and joints, which makes individual and very characteristic, differentiateable between any other sound of the orchestra. It is used frequently for effects related to atmospheric phenomena.

Medium. Of G 1 to B flat 1 . He is weak, extinguished and it lacks generally refining and amplitude. Can execute perfect pianissimo but not Fortes. The sounds that conform it are called of throat. Although less brilliant than the other registries, can be used to produce, suitably, certain effects.

Clarino . Of B 1 to C 3. In him is the first group of overtones. It is shining, warm, luminous and very expressive a registry. Commonly usually it is called High.

High. Of C sharp 3 to G 3 . He is penetrating in forte and made flute-like in the piano . This registry must be the top for the parts of orchestra. It can present difficulty for his tunning.

High-pitched. Of G sharp 3 to C 4. He is incisive and it can seem something " chillón ", the tunning requires special care, it is not possible to be touched quickly and it is difficult to maintain a timbre homogenous. Generally, east registry in the parts of clarinet is not included, but it is used in passages to tutti , duplicated with another instrument, in modern compositions, or single where the clarinetist operates its instrument to the maximum and demonstrates its virtuosity.
